Educational visits
Archives are excellent resources for providing learning experiences for children and teachers.
Using your local archive to research different topics and/or places can help spark the imagination and really make a subject come to life.
By discussing the value of different information sources pupils can learn new skills and carry out their own research.
A visit to the archives can offer cross-curricular learning opportunities.
We can help with:
- chronological awareness
- historical knowledge and understanding
- interpretation of history
- historical enquiries
- organisation and communication
We welcome individual or group visits from teachers and/or pupils. We welcome the opportunity to work with teachers to help create packs of resources for use in the classroom.
When you arrive
Please arrive at your specific appointment time. You will be given a locker for your coat and bags. Bags along with pens, food and drink are not allowed in the search room.
Please make sure you wash your hands with soap and water before touching any archives, using hand gel is not a suitable alternative as the gel can damage archives.

A staff member will be available in the search room at all times to show you how to handle archives safely and to answer any questions.
