Storm Éowyn information

The Met Office have published an amber weather warning for Friday 24 January 2025 and have named this period of adverse weather Storm Eowyn.

A55 Britannia Bridge

It is possible that the bridge will need to close from 7am until 12pm on Friday 24 January 2025 as the current forecast indicates wind speed over the 70mph closure threshold. Please note this information is based on the latest weather forecasts and could change.

Lane closures have been put place in both directions on the 22 January 2025 to support any potential full closure. This needs to be done in advance because it’s not possible to deploy this traffic management safely when wind speeds are over 70mph.

Highways

Highways staff remain on standby and will be called into action as and when required.

Latest updates

Latest updates will be provided by:

Recycling and black bin collections

Following a risk assessment undertaken by our providers, Biffa, a decision has been taken to suspend all waste collection services for Friday 24 January only.

We would kindly ask that all affected properties not to present their bins for collection.

Alternative arrangements

Recycling

We will be returning on your next scheduled collection day.

Clear plastic bags will be made available at our recycling sites in Gwalchmai and Penhesgyn from Monday 27 January, along with the Council Offices in Llangefni. The council is also exploring additional collection points within the affected areas.

Black bin

We ask that all properties affected to present their black bin on Saturday 25 January for 7am and we will aim to collect them. This however may be subject to change.

Penhesgyn and Gwalchmai household waste recycling centres

Both Penhesgyn and Gwalchmai Household Waste Recycling Centres will be closed to the public on Friday 24 January.

Gwalchmai Household Waste Recycling Centre will also be closed to the public on Saturday 25 January.
