How you find out that a school is closed
There is a protocol for communicating school closures to parents, guardians and children.
This means that when schools close because of an emergency or unplanned event, there is a way that schools tell people.
We are in the process of udpating the information on this webpage. More information will be published on this page soon.
Who decides if a school has to close
The responsibility for keeping a school open or closing the school lies with the headteacher of the school and the governing body.
The paramount concern, at all times, is the safety of pupils and any decisions made by headteachers and governing bodies must make sure that pupils and staff are not placed at risk.
