Privacy notice: Prevent and Channel Panel

This notice provides additional privacy information for the Prevent and Channel Panel.

Purposes

Under the Counter-Terrorism and Security Act 2015 all local authorities and a number of other specified authorities have a legal duty to have due regard to the need to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.

We have committed ourselves to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults who are at risk of radicalisation or involvement in terrorism.

Personal information, supplied for the purposes of Channel, will be held and processed by the Home Office. The Home Office is the controller of this information. This also includes when it is collected or processed by third parties on the Home Office’s behalf including the local authority.

Your rights

All recorded information held by a public authority is covered by the right to information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOI Act).

A consistent approach is required in responding to FOI requests relevant to Channel panels and assessments of individuals, and to protect third parties. Therefore all local partners who receive such an FOI request should bring it to the attention of their local panel.

The chair should notify the Channel Case Officer and the Office for Security and Counter-Terrorism in the Home Office, who will advise if any further consultation is necessary, for instance with other central government departments.
