Answers to questions you may have about applying for a job with us.

You have never used this website before. What should you do?

On the website you will be able to see a list of our current vacancies. You can select ‘See job details’ to see the full description. From here, you can apply for a role by clicking ‘Apply now’.

This will take you to the application form where you should fill the details based on our ‘How to apply’ guide.

You will receive an email confirming your application once we have received it. We will give you more details in the email.

All correspondence will be sent to your email account including invitations to interview. Remember to check your junk folder.

Can you apply online for all council jobs?

All council-based vacancies can be applied for online.

You cannot use the online application form to apply for school (teaching and non-teaching) posts. You must submit your application to the relevant school or educational establishment directly by post. Details are included in the relevant vacancies.

How do you apply for a specific vacancy?

Click on the ‘See job details’ button next to the vacancy you wish to apply for and then click ‘Apply now’. This will take you through to the application form.

We provide people with disabilities the option to apply for vacancies in different formats. Please contact the HR Team on 01248 750 057 for further advice.

Do you need to complete an application form for each job that you are interested in applying for?

Yes.

Once you have applied for a role with us you will be able to use previous application forms for further application you make through the system.

Make sure you update the details in the application form to ensure they are accurate and relevant to the role you are applying for.

How often should you save your information when completing the application form?

Use the ‘Save progress’ button often.

This will allow you to save your information as you go along, and you can complete the application later.

For security reasons the system will log you out if your keyboard has been inactive for any length of time. If your information has been lost, then you will need to fill in the form once again.

Can you save and add information to your application form?

You can retrieve an application that you saved previously to update the details and submit the application.

Once your application has been submitted, you are unable to amend your details.

Where is the closing date?

The closing date can be found on the advert. It is essential you submit your application form before 11:59pm on this date.

No application will be accepted after 11:59pm on the closing date.

Do you need to tell someone if you cannot to attend an interview?

Yes, please.

This would be appreciated. A contact phone number or email will be available on the calendar invitation to interview email. 

Do you need to confirm that you are going to attend the interview?

Yes, please.

Can you have feedback after an interview?

Yes.

The nominated person on the interview panel will be able to provide feedback, whether successful or unsuccessful, if you request it.

If you have a disability and need reasonable adjustments for the interview, how will these be met?

The council is committed to ensuring equality for all. We will do all that we can to make sure any reasonable adjustments are met.

Let us know what adjustments you may need on your application form. You can also contact the recruiting manager.

Ensuring an interview

The council guarantees an interview to every disabled applicant if they meet the requirements for the post. Disabled applicants will be assessed based on their abilities.

Attending the interview

If you are invited to an interview, you will be asked to note if you have any specific needs to make sure that we have suitable arrangements in place if needed.

This could be a sign-language interpreter or lip reader, for example.

We will let you know if any tests, presentations or group discussions are likely to form part of the selection process.

Support for successful candidates

Every effort is made to treat disabled employees in accordance with their needs and reasonable adjustments will be made to the workplace and work processes to accommodate disabled staff.

Can you apply for posts just using a CV?

No.

Please use the application form provided.

Where do you get an application pack from?

Most of the jobs on this website allow you to apply online.

A job pack is not required, and paper forms will not be accepted.

Education vacancies include an application pack which you will need to post to the relevant school. 

Where do you return the application form?

Any applications that are made online are submitted straight into the system.

Return information for offline job applications will be stipulated in the job advert.

When will you hear if you have been offered an interview?

All applicants who have applied online will receive an email notifying them of a change in status of their application form.

Applicants who have applied to education roles in schools will be contacted by the school directly.

How can you find out if a job requires a DBS check before you can start working?

DBS requirements are stated in the relevant job description, which can be downloaded from the job details page.

If the post you are applying for includes working with children or vulnerable adults (regulated activity) the post is classed as an exempt post under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and it will be subject to a DBS (Disclosure and Barring check), as noted on the job description).

You must disclose any convictions, bind-over orders, cautions or charges pending, whether current or spent. Failure to disclose this information is a criminal offence and could result in dismissal, disciplinary proceedings or rejection of your application.

A criminal record will not necessarily bar you from working for the council. This will depend on the nature of the job and the circumstances and background of your offences.

If you fail to give us relevant information or give false information this may result in any offer of employment being withdrawn or if already in employment, disciplinary action and dismissal.

How secure is your information?

We secure your information during transmission by using Transport Layer Security (TLS) software.

This encrypts information you input. We maintain physical, electronic and procedural safeguards in connection with the collection, storage and disclosure of personally identifiable customer information.

It is important for you to protect against unauthorised access to your computer. Be sure to sign off when you finish using a shared computer.
