Working in Partnership
Who helps us to deliver a high quality service
Flying Start teacher
The settings are supported by the Flying Start teacher whose role is to offer support and guidance on best practice to ensure that each child’s individual needs are met. The teacher will visit each setting on a regular basis to ensure a high quality provision is provided and that staff are supported.
Following parental discussion, the teacher will also discuss with staff appropriate strategies to support any children who have additional learning needs. The teacher will be responsible for arranging/providing staff training which will enable the staff to fully support each child.
The advisory teacher also liaises with the catchment school, to maintain a positive relationship and a smooth transition for all children moving on from Flying Start.
Health visitor
Childcare settings and the Flying Start teacher have close links with the designated health visitor. The health visitor will attend the childcare setting from time to time to support and advise staff.
Speech and language therapist
We also have a speech and language therapist who advises the staff on supporting children with developing their language.
Language and play co-ordinator
The co-ordinator may visit the settings to support staff with the WellComm tool. You may receive materials to support your child’s language at home from the childcare.
Family and health workers
We have an excellent team of family and health workers who can work with you and your child on a one-to-one basis at home.
The childcare leader will speak to you if they have concerns or think that your child can benefit from this support. It may help you with things such as fussy eating, toilet training and managing behaviour.
We also have many courses that support you as a parent, cooking, confidence building, new skills and qualifications, budgeting, managing toddler behaviour. Just keep a look out for our posters or leaflets and check our Facebook page.
Transition meetings
Before your child starts and then at the end of each following term, transition meetings will be held between the childcare leader and the Flying Start staff team.
This is to make sure that your child’s needs are met and that we are doing all we can to support your child to reach their potential. If we think that your child could be further supported the leader will talk to you about this before the meeting.
We may arrange a smaller meeting with you, so that you can tell us what kind of support you’d like your child to have and who is the best person to do that.
Members of the Flying Start Team will attend the meeting as well as the council's additional learning needs teacher. At the end of your child’s period in the childcare, the Flying Start teacher will share transition information with your child’s next educational setting.
