Amlwch Leisure Centre will shortly undergo a major upgrade programme, which will help sustain its long-term future.
The latest refurbishment works, worth more than £608,000 will take investment in the facilities to more than £1.2 million over the last two years.
Both Môn Actif members and visitors are being asked to be patient over the coming months, with various sections of the busy leisure centre closed as works start in February.
These will include alterations to swimming pool disabled changing rooms, reception toilets and café area; a new sports hall roof and high-level windows; new poolside windows and door; and a new floor in the main hall.
Funding has been provided by the county council (£390,000); Welsh Government Health and Social Care Integration and Rebalancing Capital Fund (£128,625) and Sport Wales (£90,000).
Significant past investment also saw the replacement of inefficient oil-fired boilers, used to heat the swimming pool, and old ventilation system with a high efficiency electrical system; upgraded fitness rooms and tennis courts; and a new state of the art 3G sports pitch.
Deputy Leader and Economic Development Portfolio Holder, Councillor Carwyn Jones said, “This major programme of upgrade works at Amlwch underlines our continued commitment to improving leisure facilities across the Island. Further significant investment, totalling more than £608,625 has been secured to sustain the leisure centre’s long-term future.”
“I’d like to thank our Officers for their hard work in preparing and presenting the successful grant applications; and, of course, our colleagues in Welsh Government and Sport Wales for their continued commitment to partnership working and significant financial support.”
Twrcelyn Ward’s county councillors, councillors Aled Morris-Jones, Derek Owen and Liz Wood, also welcomed news of the investment and works programme.
They said, “We are pleased, as local councillors, to see further investment at Amlwch Leisure Centre. The leisure centre is an extremely important facility for the health and well-being of the town and wider Twrcelyn Ward.”
“The works will mean some inconvenience for members and visitors, but the end results will ensure that they can continue to use and enjoy this important community resource.”
