Athletes, coaches and volunteers came together last week to celebrate their sporting achievements at the Anglesey and Gwynedd School Sport Awards.
Individuals and teams were shortlisted for a number of prestigious awards during the ceremony which was held at Canolfan Beaumaris and jointly sponsored by Always Aim High and TDL.
Lowri Howie, of Ysgol Gynradd Llanbedr, was one of the stars of the evening: the promising young skier scooped up both Pupil of the Year and Sports Personality of the Year awards. Ysgol Henblas also won the extremely competitive award for best primary school of the year!
Welsh singer and presenter Elin Fflur hosted the evening and former Welsh international footballer, Owain Tudur Jones, provided a thought provoking and inspiring speech as the guest speaker. Both Elin and Owain emphasised that they were in awe of the dedication and achievements of the nominees.
David Barker, Isle of Anglesey County Council’s Sport Development Manager said,
“Thank you to all our sponsors for supporting the Event. It was great to see Anglesey’s Mon Actif and Gwynedd’s Sport for Life work together to realise this event and many of our nominees will have benefitted from the support and opportunities that these teams provide.”
Anglesey’s Leisure portfolio holder, Councillor Carwyn Jones, added,
“It was a fantastic evening, celebrating the wonderful sporting achievements of our young people and I hope it will inspire children and adults in both counties to be more active, more often in their daily lives.”
