Anglesey comes together for Christmas Hamper Food Bank Project

The festive period can be challenging for some of our most vulnerable families.  That’s why Anglesey County Council has been working with a number of partner agencies to deliver this year’s Christmas Hampers Food Bank project.

The aim of the project is simple, we want to ensure that nobody goes hungry this Christmas, and no child goes without a gift to open on Christmas morning.

Other partners supporting the project include Digartref, Anglesey and Amlwch Food Banks, Citizens Advice Bureau, and North Wales Police.

Over 37 dedicated drop-off points for donations were set up on the Island, from primary schools and libraries, to supermarkets and local businesses.

The Christmas Hampers include everything needed for a Christmas dinner, as well as selection boxes, pet food, toiletries, and a toy for each child. As well as hampers for families, we also provide hampers for single adults, too.

Last year, we delivered 110 hampers, with 158 children receiving gifts. This year, around 220 hampers will be delivered to families and individuals across the island, and 225 children will be given gifts, too.

Councillor Alun Mummery, Supporting Communities including Community Safety Portfolio Holder, said,

“Seeing the Anglesey community work together for this project has been very humbling. Particularly over the Christmas period, we must work as one to help those most vulnerable in society. This project is testament to the selfless and caring society we have on the island”.

Llinos Wyn Williams, Manager of Anglesey Community Housing, said, “We are so grateful for every donation we have received. These hampers have such a positive impact on those who receive them. Without the support of local communities this project would not be possible, so thank you”

This scheme is not a one-off, we also offer continuous support to the families and individuals in need, including help and advice with regards to budgeting their finances. We hope to help those who are in a vulnerable situation this year, in hope that they don’t find themselves in a similar situation next Christmas, too.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the residents of Anglesey, the response to this project has been overwhelming, and we are very grateful for the donations we have received this year.”

Thanks to pupils from Ysgol Garreglefn for their generous donations to the appeal.
