Four Anglesey County Council staff recently completed the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge, taking less than 24 hours to do so.
In tackling the tough challenge, Keith Walters, Rhian Sharpe (Foster Wales Anglesey), Sioned Owen and Ffion Owen (Resilient Families Team) have raised over £500 for the Anglesey Foster Care Association.
They were joined along the way by colleagues and foster carers from Foster Wales teams across Wales to complete Yr Wyddfa, Cadair Idris and Pen-Y-Fan.
Foster Wales Anglesey Team Manager, Keith Walters, said:
“To mark Foster Care Fortnight, we felt that we needed to do something to highlight how we all at Foster Wales Anglesey ‘go that extra mile’ to support our foster families. We contacted the Anglesey Foster Care Association charity (AFCA) and agreed to raise money so that they can organise additional fun activities for the children this summer.”
He added, “The sights witnessed were truly magnificent. We are grateful to all who gave so generously, supporting us and the AFCA.”
Foster Care Fortnight, held between 15 to 28 May 2023, is the UK’s biggest foster care awareness raising campaign led by The Fostering Network.
Anglesey’s Children and Families and Youth Services portfolio holder, Councillor Gary Pritchard, said:
“I would like to congratulate all members of the team who completed the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge to raise awareness of the opportunities to become foster carers.”
“Walking up Wales' highest mountains is a tough task to undertake with several challenges and difficulties but, much like fostering, those challenges bring fantastic rewards.”
Anglesey Foster Care Association Chairperson, Barbara Jones, added:
“All involved with the AFCA greatly appreciate the continued support by Foster Wales Anglesey. These generous donations help us to give the children in our care the opportunity to have different experiences, such as ‘fun days’ and to try new activities that they may not have experienced otherwise.”
“The efforts by the Anglesey Council Children and Families Service team who recently completed the Welsh 3 Peaks Challenge to support the AFCA, shows their commitment to the children within their care - thank you.”
Foster Wales is the national network of 22 Welsh local authority not-for-profit fostering services, working together to build better futures for children in Wales.
Around 2700 foster carers, and family and friends carers, are part of Foster Wales. They provide children who cannot live with their immediate family a safe, loving and supportive home.
