Apply for business grants before June 30 deadline

Anglesey businesses are being urged to apply for a business rate relief grant before the looming deadline.

The Coronavirus non-domestic rates (NDR) grant schemes will be closing to new applications at 5pm on Tuesday, 30 June 2020.

The Welsh Government has introduced two non-repayable grants that are linked to the business rates payable properties. Both grants will apply to businesses that were on the rating list on 20 March, 2020.

Anglesey Council is administrating both grants on behalf of the Welsh Government during the Coronavirus pandemic.  It has  paid out more than £17 million to 1,466 eligible businesses – having already received nearly 2,000 grant application.

However, with more than 2,500 properties on the Island eligible for grant support – it is clear that many have still not made a claim.

Anglesey Economic Development portfolio holder, Councillor Carwyn Jones, explained, “We realise that this is a really hard time for many local businesses, especially those that have had to close as a result of the coronavirus crisis. It’s therefore vital that those businesses that haven’t applied as yet do so before the June 30th cut-off date.”

Finance portfolio holder, Cllr Robin Williams, added, “Whilst appreciating that the process has sometimes been frustrating for those waiting for this important funding, I’m hugely grateful to our staff who have worked hard to ensure that more than 80% of business grant applications have been paid out to those eligible Anglesey businesses. There is still more work to be done, of course, and we will be doing our best to support local businesses during this difficult time.”

Please note: Those who still need to make an application must ensure that they include the correct business rates bill reference.

Our staff will be working hard behind the scenes to get these grants to you as quickly as possible. Please be patient.
