Beaumaris works progressing well

The County Council began work on a major flood alleviation scheme in Beaumaris on January 4th. The five-month scheme will provide Beaumaris homes and businesses with greater protection from flooding.

We’d like to take this opportunity to update you about how the works in Beaumaris are progressing:

  • Stanley Street / Wexham Street

The works here were always going to be challenging, as we try to fit large pipes into a narrow road.  Unfortunately we have discovered many more services than were picked up on surveys, which has made it more difficult to lay the pipe as intended. We have agreed a revised design with our contractor and the priority is to complete the connection between Stanley Street and the main drain towards Castle Meadow near Tunnel Lodge so that the B5109 can be re-opened by 2nd March.

The delay means that work to lay new drainage upwards along Wexham Street will not be carried out during this phase and we are now proposing to do the works further up Wexham Street at an alternative time, to be agreed. This means that we will keep Wexham Street closed until and including 1st March, still taking advantage of the school holidays, but on 2nd March the road will open for the foreseeable future, albeit under traffic management.

We are hopeful that the works further up Wexham Street can still go ahead, but due to the delay and complications, it will depend on funding and agreeing a date when the road can be closed again that minimises disruption.

  • Castle Field and Castle Meadow

The works here are progressing well, and we are working with Welsh Water to agree methodologies on site to protect the rising water main. These works are currently on programme. The buses will remain to stop by Henllys Lane, but return to normal routes Saturday 2nd March.

  • Beaumaris Green

We recently held a constructive meeting with Beaumaris Town Council. Members have agreed that Coaches will be able to use the Green during the scheme. We are currently working with the Coach Operators and colleagues in the Tourism sector to ensure that a message is conveyed to all Coach Companies that Beaumaris is open for business and that directions to the coach parking on the Green are clear. In collaboration with the Town Council we have also secured funding to be able to implement some improvements for pedestrians around the Green entrance.

If you need any further information regarding the road closures please contact Dawnus on 01248 673242 or Isle of Anglesey County Council on 01248 752300.
