Anglesey County Council’s Chairperson will be walking the island’s coastal path for charity.
The walk, which will take place from the 15th to the 27th of April, will include walking the 130-mile-long beautiful Anglesey Coastal Footpath.
Anglesey’s Chairperson, Cllr Dylan Rees said, “I will be walking on average 11 miles per day and I have also partnered with Keep Wales Tidy to arrange six beach cleans en route.”
“The charity that I have chosen to sponsor is St. David’s Hospice, specifically the launch of their new four-bed satellite unit at Ysbyty Penrhos Stanley, Holyhead, which will provide in-patient hospice care for residents of Anglesey.”
The event will also form part of Keep Wales Tidy’s annual Spring Clean campaign, and Lesley Jones Keep Wales Tidy Chief Executive added, “Spring Clean Cymru brings together individuals, community groups, businesses and councils to make a difference to the environment on our doorstep. We are delighted that Dylan Rees; the Chairman of Anglesey County Council is supporting this year’s campaign and would like to thank him for his efforts in cleaning up the beaches during his sponsored walk.
Without councils across the country giving the campaign their backing, our volunteers would not be able to do the incredible job they do.”
Anglesey Council’s AONB team are also looking forward to the event, noting, “The coastal path is a vital part of Anglesey’s tourism, it falls within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) which covers 95% of the coast. It passes through landscape that includes a mixture of farmland, coastal heath, dunes, salt-marsh, foreshore, cliffs and a few small pockets of woodland.”
Councillor Rees Concluded, “I’m excited to start the challenge and I’m very grateful to Eaton Electrical Ltd in Holyhead who have agreed to be the corporate sponsor for my walk, to the authority’s Coastal Path Staff, Keep Wales Tidy and the volunteers who will give their time to help me complete my challenge.”
“It would be wonderful if members of the public could support this most worthy cause by either making a donation via ‘Just Giving’ and/or joining me at a beach clean as we seek to preserve our precious environment here on Anglesey.”
