Final phase of Penrhos Industrial Estate expansion to begin

The third and final phase of works to transform the site of a former heliport into a modern 23-unit business park will begin in early February.

The construction of another six new business units at Holyhead’s Penrhos Industrial Estate will further support employment opportunities in Anglesey’s Enterprise Zone.

Phase three of the development has been part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund through the Welsh Government. The new units should be available to let from Summer 2023 onwards.

Since 2019, the county council’s Economic Development Team have successfully delivered 17 modern business units for light industrial, warehousing and office use.

Deputy Leader and Economic Development Portfolio Holder, Councillor Carwyn Jones, said, “This development will provide further opportunities for local business to develop and expand. We are committed to continue to improve Anglesey’s economic infrastructure.”

He added, “The successful completion of this project will supply more high-quality business units and provide businesses with office space, light industrial and storage use. The Penrhos Industrial Estate will enable growth and help to provide more employment opportunities within Anglesey’s Enterprise Zone.”

In total, the county council secured more than £9.3 million towards the Penrhos expansion project and entered into a joint venture with the Welsh Government to ensure its successful delivery.

Welsh Government’s Economy Minister, Vaughan Gething, explained, “It’s great to see the expansion of Holyhead Penrhos Industrial Estate gathering pace. Working together, Anglesey Council and the Welsh Government have been able to upgrade Holyhead’s business infrastructure, which will help provide local businesses with the opportunity to develop and expand. Vitally, it will also help boost the local supply chain and create good quality jobs on the island. I look forward to seeing more businesses moving in and continuing our record of success.”

Wynne Construction Commercial Director, Simon Moreton, added, “We are delighted to have been appointed the contractors for the phase three works the Penrhos Industrial Estate.”

“The construction of a further six units at the site will be a welcome addition to the existing business provision and for the local community. Throughout the construction phase, we will maximise on the economic, skills and training opportunities within our local supply chain in the region.”
