Holyhead Leisure Centre undergo upgrade programme

Holyhead Leisure Centre has undergone major transformation lately with a number of upgrades now complete.

The leisure centre has had a brand new floor in the main hall, along with improvements to the squash courts and shower facilities, which will improve the overall visitor experience and help sustain its long-term future.

The main hall has been closed since Monday 19th March 2024 for the renovation. Work has included renovation to the main hall subfloor and installation of new modern flooring.

Originally scheduled for six weeks, the construction works have been completed earlier than anticipated and means that the main hall in Holyhead Leisure Centre has reopened today (Friday, April 19) for activities, groups and clubs.

The works programme is worth more than £160,000 with funding provided by the County Council (£60,000) and Sport Wales (£100,000).

Leisure portfolio holder, Councillor Neville Evans said, “This programme of upgrade works at Holyhead Leisure Centre underlines our continued commitment to improving leisure facilities across the Island.”

“I’d like to thank our officers for their hard work in preparing and presenting the successful grant applications; and, of course, our colleagues in Sport Wales for their continued commitment to partnership working and significant financial support.”

Head of Anglesey Council’s Regulation and Economic Development Service, Christian Branch, added, “We are pleased to have secured this investment in Holyhead Leisure Centre to undertake the upgrades. We are aware that the works have meant some inconvenience to members and visitors, but hope that the end result will mean that everyone can continue to use and enjoy this important community resource.”
