Môn Actif hosts activities to help #KeepAngleseyActive

Anglesey council's leisure service - Môn Actif - have delivered 22 events over Whitsun Week to help its aim of creating a healthier, happier, and more active Anglesey.

The events, delivered by the Môn Actif Sports Development Team, saw over 3,000 people participating in events across 16 different locations. Events included:

  • 5 sports camps
  • 4 community sport camps
  • 1 mountain biking (“Dr Bike” session)
  • 1 water safety day
  • 1 canoe Adventure Day
  • 3 Plas Newydd family activity days
  • 2 family fun days
  • 1 supporting the Big Lunch Event
  • 1 rugby Extravaganza (Llangefni)
  • 1 supporting the 2024 Raft Race event
  • 1 open access activities for Môn Actif facilities
  • 1 pool inflatable session

The vast and exciting activity programme would not have been possible without the support of Anglesey’s Childcare and Play Service and other key partners, including:

  • Flying Start team
  • Ysgol Moelfre and Ysgol Tywyn
  • Llangoed FC & Community Group

Môn Actif Sports Development Manager, Barry Edwards explained, “It’s great to be able to engage with so many people of all ages and abilities across many of our communities on the island. Through effective collaboration, a range of physical activity opportunities have been provided for the children and people of Anglesey to promote health and wellbeing.”

He added, “The key to this half term programme has been outreach work: taking the activities out to the community, utilising local assets, and reducing cost and travel barriers for participants. For a single week half term period, a record number of children and young people have participated (3,007). This reflects Anglesey Council’s vision to help create an Anglesey that is healthy and prosperous where people can thrive.”

The Môn Actif Sports Development Team have a great summer programme in place which will provide children and people with even more physical activity opportunities. These include:

  • a community swim safe event and water safety camps
  • family fun days and sports camps
  • community camps and family beach days
  • a canoe adventure day
  • surfing and paddle boarding camps
  • supporting the Bwyd a Hwyl project
  • RAF health and wellbeing camps
  • mountain biking camps
  • the Anglesey Show
  • Insport Series event at Holyhead Leisure Centre
