The high standards of lifeguarding at the Island’s swimming pools have been praised by inspectors.

Môn Actif leisure centres recently received an external quality audit from the Royal Life Saving Society UK. The service was awarded the top mark of ‘Fully Compliant’ with the audit report highlighting that there were “strong procedures in place with good internal verification and standardised training sessions” at Amlwch, Holyhead and Llangefni’s pools.

The external audit, which is conducted every two years, was carried out at Holyhead Leisure Centre last month. The Centre was also praised for “good compliant paperwork with no issues found” and was encouraged to “maintain these high standards.”

Commercial Leisure Manager, Gerallt Roberts commented: “It is very pleasing to see such a positive audit after all the hard work the Môn Actif team has put in to achieve standardised training and the correct quota of Trainer Assessors across our three swimming pools. The challenge now will be to maintain these standards. I would like to congratulate all the staff who were involved in the inspection process.”

Major Projects and Economic Development Portfolio Holder Carwyn Jones, added: “This achievement highlights the fantastic work carried out by members of staff within the Leisure Service. I would like to thank all our staff who have worked hard to ensure that our centres operate at the highest standard.”
