The Urdd’s new home on Anglesey will provide opportunities for increased collaboration between the organisation and the county council.
The Urdd team have moved in to the Anglesey Business Centre located on the Bryn Cefni Industrial Estate on the outskirts of Llangefni.
Eight members of staff have relocated there after the Urdd signed a three-year lease. They now share the same building as officers from the county council’s leisure and economic development departments and the hope is that existing collaboration will continue.
The deputy leader of the county council and the portfolio holder for economic development, Councillor Carwyn Jones, said, “We are delighted to welcome the Urdd to Llangefni following a happy time at Ysgol Uwchradd Bodedern.”
“Urdd officers are already doing excellent work with the leisure function to provide numerous opportunities for young people on the island.”
“Relocating here to the Business Centre creates an opportunity to continue and improve collaboration between the Urdd and the county council and it will provide opportunities for us to promote our language and culture amongst children and young people on Anglesey.”
Urdd Gobaith Cymru is a National Voluntary Youth Organisation with over 55,000 members aged between 8 and 25.
Since its foundation in 1922 by Sir Ifan ab Owen Edwards, the organisation has provided opportunities for children and young people to enjoy experiences through the medium of Welsh, enabling them to make a positive contribution to their communities.
Eryl Williams, North and Mid Wales Community Manager, said on behalf of Urdd Gobaith Cymru, “Relocating to the business centre in Llangefni means that we are in the centre of the island, with all the team working on the Island now based in one dedicated office. The business centre has excellent resources and dedicated meeting rooms with the latest technology.”
“I would like to thank the county council’s staff and officers for their help and support to the Urdd in finding a new home on the island.”
