New moorings have been installed at Amlwch Port to support local fishermen, charter boat owners and the Liverpool pilot service.
Recent maintenance inspections raised concerns about several mooring piles in the outer harbour (locally known as the “Shell Penns”).
Consequently, essential works have now been completed to replace seven mooring piles and their protective anodes. The port will be able to serve the community and commercial operators well into the future.
Leisure, Tourism and Maritime portfolio holder, Councillor Neville Evans, thanked the local fishing fleet and charter boat operators for their patience and continued support.
Councillor Evans said, “We also discussed the condition of the moorings at a meeting with the Amlwch Port Users Group and I am very pleased that works to replace the moorings have now been completed. Providing a safe operating environment for our commercial operators and local fishermen at Amlwch Port is essential.”
“The work will provide many local residents and commercial businesses with a platform to serve the community and carry out their operations respectively.”
Twrcelyn Ward’s county councillors, councillors Aled Morris-Jones, Derek Owen and Liz Wood, also welcomed the works undertaken.
They said, “We are pleased, as local county councillors, to see these essential works carried out at Amlwch Port. This is an important working port which sustains many local jobs and services. It is a valuable facility in terms of local employment and a unique resource for the community of Amlwch and North Anglesey as a whole."
