Storm Eunice: Anglesey schools will not open tomorrow

Anglesey Council has taken the decision not to open its schools tomorrow (Friday, 18 February) with Storm Eunice expected to cause significant disruption.

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for wind in North Wales between 5am and 9pm tomorrow; whilst parts of South Wales have been issued with a red warning.

Anglesey’s Director of Education, Skills and Young People, Rhys Hughes, explained, “This decision has not been taken lightly, but, given the expected severity of the Storm Eunice it is the right decision.”

“The safety of pupils, staff and transport personnel must remain our priority at all times.”

He added, “Pupils will continue to access education provision tomorrow but this will be through distance learning from their home rather than face-to-face lessons at school.”

The decision to close Anglesey schools was taken following a Risk Assessment and consideration to advice from the emergency services.
