Isle of Anglesey County Council

Support for families over summer holidays

Special summer activities will aim to help families as a free school meals are not provided over the holidays.

Many activities held by the county council and its partners will opt to offer meals to children after the decision taken by the Welsh Government.

A dedicated webpage providing support for families from Teulu Môn, Flying Start, Môn Actif, Youth Service can be found: www.anglesey.gov.wales/summersupport

Staff at various activities will be able to signpost families that can help with the cost of living – including the county council’s J.E. O’Toole Centre in Holyhead and CAB Ynys Môn.

The website will also include information about local food banks and Môn Good Food, which are both ready and willing to take on new members.

Council Leader, Councillor Llinos Medi, explained, “We do not want a single child to go hungry over the summer holidays. We have considered a number of options following the Welsh Government’s decision to cut the support over summer holidays.”

“We have been working hard with our partners to provide many free, fun events for Anglesey children over the summer. These events will provide enjoyment, a wide range of experiences and support their welfare.

Councillor Medi added, “Many of these events will offer food as well as signposting families to cost of living advice and support on offer from local food banks. We hope that they will make a positive difference to those families in need on Anglesey over the coming weeks.”

The island's food banks can provide food and other essential items to those who have experienced financial hardship.
