‘Yr Academi Felys’ winner, Ian Williams, and Caron Ynyr, look forward to opening their new café at Oriel Môn.
The business partners successfully bid to run a new café and catering service at the gallery in Llangefni, following a recent tendering process.
Ian and Caron will be creating an exciting home-made menu bursting with recipes sourced from fresh local produce and ingredients.
Ian is best known for winning the inaugural series of S4C’s baking competition ‘Yr Academi Felys’
Ian explained, “I have always loved being in the kitchen; creating sweet treats and baking is my passion. In recent years I’ve been able to turn this passion into a successful business.”
He added, “During the Covid-19 lockdown I bought a horsebox trailer and transformed it into a mobile bar called ‘Y Bocs’, and the business has grown from strength to strength. After winning ‘Yr Academi Felys’ and to build on the success of the business, I felt that moving into a larger premises was a natural progression. Oriel Môn presented us with a great opportunity and opening ‘Caffi Bach y Bocs’ that will ensure that our recipes and food reach a much wider audience.”
Work has already begun to recruit members of staff to join Ian and Caron’s team as they look to rejuvenate the café that is located in the popular museum and gallery.
Caron, whose background is in customer excellence, is excited to begin the new venture at Caffi Bach y Bocs - he added, “Both Ian and I are very much looking forward to welcome customers to the new café at Oriel Môn. I’ll be using my professional experience and skills in a customer orientated role to give people the best possible experience.”
“Opening Caffi Bach y Bocs will give us the perfect platform to provide customers with fantastic food, a great atmosphere and plenty of delicious home-made cakes that will go perfectly with a panad.”
The new café has over 50 covers indoors and another 30 outdoors (weather permitting) and will open Tuesday to Sunday throughout the year, from 10am until 5pm.
Both locals and visitors alike have been eagerly awaiting for the café to reopen.
Deputy Council Leader, Councillor Ieuan Williams, who has responsibility for Oriel Môn as part of his Education and Welsh Language portfolio, said, “I’m delighted to welcome Ian and Caron to Oriel Môn. They are enthusiastic and passionate about delivering a high quality service at Caffi Bach y Bocs and I’m confident that it will prove to be an excellent and popular addition to the Oriel.”
Ian, Caron and all the staff at Oriel Mon look forward to welcoming customers to Caffi Bach y Bocs very soon. Confirmation of opening date will be announced on the Oriel’s Môn’s website in due course: www.orielmon.org
